MCP servers for insurance

The insurance sector is still a blind spot in the MCP landscape: official MCP servers from insurers or policy administration systems are rare. That does not mean nothing is possible — insurers currently apply MCP mainly through generic building blocks: document processing for claims, CRM connections, and self-built servers on top of their own policy administration. Precisely because the sector lags behind, early movers gain an advantage.

Watch out in this sector

Policy and claims data contains special categories of personal data (health, criminal history). A GDPR legal basis, data minimisation and a data processing agreement with your AI vendor are not a formality but a precondition. DORA additionally imposes ICT third-party risk requirements on financial institutions.

Frequently asked questions

Are there official MCP servers from insurers?

Hardly any. Socotra shipped the first policy-administration MCP server; major insurers do not yet offer official public MCP servers. The practical route is building an internal MCP server on top of existing APIs, or using generic servers (documents, CRM, email) for parts of the process.

Can an insurer share customer data with an AI model via MCP?

Yes, but only within GDPR: with a clear legal basis, data minimisation, a data processing agreement and — for special-category data such as health data — additional safeguards. DORA and the AI Act impose further requirements on financial institutions.
